Addictionology is a specialized field, which is concerned with all the aspects of the trauma and crisis associated with dependency and addiction in all of its forms on the individual, family and society. It is focussed on the traumatological and neurobiological implications of dependency and addiction rather than the latter exclusively. It does not follow the typical conventional approaches to the treatment of dependency and addiction, which are viewed as conditions and not weaknesses.  It follows a modern, fresh and inclusive approach.

Addictionology brings together the inputs and draws on a host of related sciences and views addiction from a holistic perspective. Notwithstanding the heritage on which it stands, it is specific in its content and purpose. Training in Addictionology at its various levels, prepares and enables the individual to provide supportive and alleviation interventions to sufferers of dependency and addiction. Addiction cannot be cured, it is a condition that develops due to repetitive and long term exposure and use of substances and /or behaviour as well as the chemical dependency that develops and one that the person will have to learn to treat, identify and manage for the rest of their lives.

With its “holistic” approach, it offers exciting and rewarding additional career and employment opportunities.

Addictionology is not intended to, nor does it replace any existing profession. It can be applied in its own right or it can further enhance existing professional knowledge and ability. It is a complementary as well as supplementary discipline.

Training in Addictionology is really open to anyone who has the genuine desire to work in the field. At entry level, beyond the basic requirement of competency in English and a high/secondary/ senior school final certificate, or equivalent you can decide to what level you wish to train. In turn, this will determine at what level you can function in the field of Addictionology and Addiction Resiliency Coaching.

Your current educational level and content is assessed, as well as any relevant experience, which will determine at which point you will need to commence your training.  Training is provided by means of short courses in module form or on a level basis by our training provider. This takes place either on a distance education basis or supported education basis depending on the student’s country of residence and or proximity to a training provider. Once you have successfully completed the required number of short courses, the Training provider will recognize these and award an applicable certificate or diploma.

The short courses may also be completed individually on a standalone basis.

The short courses are conducted, through completion of systemised training modules; attendance at practical workshops (when applicable); self study; successful completion of assignments; interim and final knowledge assessments and prescribed practical training. All short course content is modularised, easy to understand and with a reasonable amount of effort, commitment and diligence, successful completion of the courses is within the reach of most people. Trainees are afforded the opportunity of undergoing knowledge re-assessments in the event of this becoming necessary. Prospective trainees must demonstrate an acceptable level of competency in English as all courses are conducted in this language.
